Power On is a bi-monthly summary of the latest market developments and insights across the Power and Renewables (P&R) sector. This edition focuses on Europe, exploring Wood Mackenzie's research insights and providing links to our more detailed analysis. 1) Budget recalibration of the UK’s upcoming AR7 seeks a successful reboot of cash for differences (CfD) tenders following an underwhelming AR6 result for offshore wind. 2) European day-ahead power markets migrate to 15-minute settlement. This transition to 15-minute settlement beginning 1 October has improved alignment with physical energy flows driven by renewable integration. 3) Renewables curtailment rises in Spain in the post-blackout period. Renewable curtailment driven by post-blackout voltage control protocols surged to 11% of day-ahead programmed generation in July, triggering 7 TWh of additional gas generation and widening price spreads.
