Although the Mannville Formation is thought to hold more than half of Alberta's CBM resource, the play has only been responsible for less than 10% of the region's CBM drilling activity to date. The Mannville coals are wet, and high-salinity water must be produced for several months or years before commercial gas production can be achieved.
