Report summary
Kapuni is an onshore gas-condensate field south of Mount Taranaki. The field was discovered in 1959 by a Shell-BP-Todd Energy joint venture. Commercial production began in 1970, making it the first gas-condensate field to be developed in New Zealand. Kapuni was the primary source of domestic gas until the offshore Maui field began producing in 1979. In August 2017, Todd Energy acquired Shell's 50% interest to become a 100% owner and operator of Kapuni.
