Report summary
Mukhaizna is a giant heavy oil development operated by Occidental Petroleum in south-central Oman, over 500 km from the capital Muscat. The field was discovered by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in 1975, and brought onstream using conventional technology in June 2000. The field was taken over by Occidental in 2005, following the award of a production sharing agreement. An extensive drilling programme combined with steam flooding increased production to a record of 126,900 b/d in 2016.
